We're in THE CONE!!

Ahhhh... Hurricane season in South Florida. Doesn't that sound like FUN?! Let me tell you it is NOT fun! First you have to plan ahead. What will I pack in case of an evacuation? Where will we go? How much time will we have? How strong will the storm be? Then there's the constant weather updates. At least two on every news broadcast on every local channel. THEN it happens. They announce we're in "the cone of probability" as they call it. Normally we have about a week's notice. Tropical Storm Fay isn't giving us that much time. And it's acting very squirrely. It's finally decided to be a TS so it can be named. Now comes the constant updates. They'll interrupt the Olympics just to give us one every 1/2 hour I'm sure. And if the storm continues to strengthen and looks like it's coming closer to us, we'll end up with 24/7 Storm Team coverage. Thank God for satellite dishes!!!

Steve and I have been through only one major storm here. That was almost 3 years ago and it happened just after Katrina. Hurricane Wilma caused MAJOR damage and it was only a Category 2! We've never lost power for more than 20 minutes during a storm because we're very close to a substation. But that storm knocked our power out for 6 DAYS. We were the lucky ones though. Some people didn't have power for a month!!! Needless to say, we have a generator now! And when we remodeled the kitchen I let Steve talk me into a gas stove! With the satellite dish, as soon as the storm passes we'll have TV again. That will be good. But the shutters won't come down until it's good and safe.

At least it will be good scrappy weather! Well, at least until I have to pack up my stuff...

I really can't imagine what that would be like! Really tough to think about what you would take and what you would leave...uhhh, I think I'll take my scrappy supplies and albums and leave everything else! LOL!

Be careful! Oh, now I'm going to worry about you until it is all over. Feel free to pack up and drive to Iowa and you can stay with us. We can have our own crop until it all over.
