Creative Use of the Kreaxions Circle Cutter

I had great fun making this page! I combined a sketch by Bev Code for the Turtle Soup forum (which is having a March Sketchathon) with a challenge on the Memorable Seasons forum to make a “coffee ring” look on your page.  I immediately thought of the Kreaxions Circle Cutter using the pencil insert instead of the blade!  So I “drew” my circles using the pencil and the little plastic piece that is also included with the Circle Cutter to cut photos and other things you don’t want to poke the hole into.  I drew my circles using a light pressure so I could cover them up and then got a foam paint brush and painted around the circles.  Then I was going to use a punched border at the top and side of the page as shown in the sketch below but I wanted more paint instead so I used the same brush and paint and used the negative piece of the punched piece from Kreaxions #310 with no template. as a stencil for my borders.  Finally I used a Crafter’s Workshop stencil to create the painted swirls.  The border at the bottom is the cut-away piece from the border I used as the stencil at the top.

Turtle Soup Sketchathon March 12 Reveal

I hope you've been having fun with the March Sketchathon at the Turtle Soup forum!  If you haven't checked it out yet, please do!  If you don't make cards, use the sketches to create a layout!  If you don't make layouts, use the sketches to make cards or ATCs or altered projects!  We're quite flexible in "The Pond" as we call it!  :)

The challenge for today was to scraplift a member and add an extra challenge.  I chose to lift a really cute card by Tracy Feely.  Here's her card -

I instantly fell in LOVE with her card and knew it wouldn't be hard for me to make it except for one thing...  I had NOTHING to make a tree with and I do NOT draw well at ALL!  So I saved Tracy’s card as a picture and printed it out. Then I cut out the printout and used it to trace on some cardstock. I also didn’t have a good banner so I did the same thing with it. I did have the same grass punch and I had some good heart punches and an embossing folder that was perfect. So I was able to completely and totally lift this card!  Here's my version -

I used a different embossing folder, different punch for the "grass" and I hand wrote the sentiment.  You may not have all the elements to lift this card either, but I challenge you to do your best!  And be sure to post it in the Turtle Soup Forum and Gallery!

Kreaxions DT Reveal - Hanging Butterfly

I wanted to do something different and had done a technique similar to this in a class MANY years ago so I thought I’d play around. I’m truly branching out of my box on this one!
First I took a pre-made chipboard butterfly and painted it with Ranger paint dauber on both sides.

Then I cut out a piece of patterned paper and a piece of clear transparency to the shape of the chipboard. I covered the painted chipboard with Mod Podge and then added the patterned paper on top of that.

While that dried, I took Kreaxions Punch #901 and punched it 3 times in a pattern on a piece of scrap paper. Then I used a foam dauber, the “template” created by the punching and some Azure Staz-On ink and made a pattern on the BACK side of the transparency.

I cut 3 flowers from Kreaxions Punch #603 (out of stock in the Just Imagine Store right now) and 3 stems from Kreaxions Punch #602, as well as 2 butterflies from Kreaxions Punch #604. I outlined my punched pieces with matching pens and using my Xyron X to add adhesive, I attached some to the chipboard piece and others to the transparency piece. I mixed stems under and over to give it more texture and interest. The sentiment sticker is under the transparency.
Once I had them arranged where I wanted them, I used Crystal Lacquer to adhere the transparency to the chipboard. I made sure I spread out the Crystal Lacquer so that it wouldn’t show. After it dried, I cut away any excess pieces from the edges. Then I started embellishing it with Stickles, bling and sparkly brads that I cut the backs off of. I used Crystal Lacquer to attach them and to enhance some of my elements.
After the top was dry, I punched holes in the top corners of the wings and added an eyelet on each side to make it prettier. Then I tied a piece of big ribbon so that it could be hung on a door handle or a wall or whatever! I did paint the back with the Ranger dauber but I chose not to decorate it. Finally, I added some Stickles around the outer edges to give it more interest and definition.
Here's the final product once more...

Scrapping Turtle Design Team Reveal!

It's time for the Turtle Soup Forum's sketch reveal!!!  The sketch this week is FABULOUS!!!  Bev made the sketch so pretty that I couldn't resist trying something new!  Here's Bev's sketch -

And here's my version of her sketch.  I saved the sketch in my photo editing program.  I saved the original file and then cropped it into different pieces which I resized it to about 5 ¼ inches and printed them on white cardstock.  Then I fussy cut all the pieces out and pieced them back together like a puzzle.  

This is a picture of my daughter (on the left) and her best friend Katy. They’re a lot of fun together and this picture really shows it! I also added some outlining with a pen and also added some brads and bling to give it dimension. I punched strips to create the inside border and hid the edges b placing it underneath the red layer. I love how it turned out!

So I've been using scrapbooking and cardmaking as my therapy when I'm able to actually do things... It truly helps me quiet my mind and just start breathing and forgetting what's happening in my mind... I don't know what I'd do without it! :) My favorite subject to scrap is my family and I've been playing with some different styles, techniques, etc. the last few months... It feels good to play differently, but I find that when I look at my work there's definitely a difference. I'm not quite sure what it is though... But as long as it helps me and the projects come out looking good then that's all that matters! LOL! And I absolutely LOVE challenges and sketches! So when I can combine them together I get really happy! :)

Turtle Soup's March Sketchathon Begins Today!!!

Hello everyone!  How in the WORLD did it get to be March 1st already???!!!  The first two months of 2015 are pretty much a blur to me with everything that's happened...  But scrapping and cardmaking are GREAT therapy for me.  And they're a LOT cheaper than traditional therapy.  Plus I have something to pass down to my family and/or share when I'm finished.  What a deal!

Anyway, today being March 1st means that the Turtle Soup forum's March Sketchathon begins today!!!  And I have the great privilege of bringing you the FIRST challenge!  So here it is!  I hope you'll join us for the daily challenges!  There will be prizes and RAKs given away at the end of the month so be sure to play along!!!

The first challenge is to use the gorgeous sketch created by Bev Code (a dear friend and our amazing Design Team Coordinator) using scraps and eyelets.  If you don’t have eyelets, use something as old as you can on the card



And here's my version of her sketch...  I used some scraps, the Creative Memories Curvy Cutter and very old stickers along with eyelets to create this card.
