I've been participating in a challenge on www.scrapdango.net. Each month a list is posted of things that give you points on each layout you do. Being a new member and having WAY too much time on my hands, I decided that I would join in. The first thing I noticed is how much BETTER my layouts have been lately! The second was how MANY I've done this month! I think I counted 71 layouts and 7 cards since June 1st!!! WOW! I have a very good chance of winning this month (a $10 gift certificate to the Scrapdango store). But none of this would have been possible with my very good friends Suzanne and Colleen and Karen and Shelley giving me encouragement all the way! Thanks ladies!! I love you guys!

An Unexpected Visitor
I was sitting at my computer this morning talking to my ISP about how slow my internet service has become lately when I suddenly looked up and saw this guy hanging out on my fence! (I zoomed in to get a good look at the fellow.)
I had seen him once before, but he was walking away from me and was towards the other end of the fence. I thought it was what we call a Cuban lizard. That day he was walking along the top of the fence posts and every time he tried to jump or run his tail would fall down and he'd have to grab on so he wouldn't fall. We have a large back yard so I got to see this happen several times. It was pretty funny!
But today I got a really good look at him and he's definitely a young Iguana. These things grow up to 6 feet long!!! And it's unusual to have him here because there's no lake or water near us. So there he sat on the fence just watching me for quite awhile. A little bit later I looked up from my computer and saw two turtle doves, then a couple of spaces, then the iguana, then a couple more spaces and two more doves sitting on the fenceposts. They were all watching me!!! It was pretty funny!
So here's my visitor in real life space away from me. I didn't even edit out the canoe and ladder laying up against the fence or the blinds at the top of the window. It's a bit unnerving to have something that close to you watching you! :)

Heritage Layouts
I'm almost done with the heritage pictures! YAY! It's been a very long time coming. My parents gave me a couple of boxes and asked me to scrap them. "Is this all there is?" "Yes." "Are you sure?" "Yes." So I put a very nice album together and thought that was that. Turns out they were very wrong!!! Every time I thought I was done, there came another group. It's been 6 years of "Oh! Here's another one!" But now we've scoured the house top to bottom and there are no more. Except now the cousins are sending me copies of theirs! So maybe it will never really be over. Meanwhile, I only have a few more pages and they're DONE! So here's today's projects.
First is a challenge on www.scrapdango.net to do a NO COLOR page. In all my years I don't think I've ever tried this! I LOVE the results!
Next is a sweet picture of a couple of babies who were my dad's cousins. The photo was taken in 1928!
Finally is a poem written by my dad's Aunt Fannie. From the stories he tells of her, she was quite the character! Sadly, I don't think we have any pictures of her though. She wrote this about a young man who wanted to seriously "court" (date) her.
The poem reads
Johnny, dear Johnny, don’t tease me
Oh leave me alone for today
Ask me tomorrow to please me
Ask me tomorrow I pray.
For my mind is so undecided
I know not which lover to choose
Though my heart singles you out dear Johnny
The others I hate to refuse.
Oh Johnny, dear Johnny, my Darling

Knock Me Over with a FEATHER!!!
My good friends Suzanne and Colleen told me about a scrappy forum called Scrapdango. I joined recently and have really enjoyed being there. They're friendly, there's lots of challenges and activities and the board's always busy. I've been posting a lot lately but still don't even have 500 posts. Blog challenge # 24
This week's challenge from Suzanne at "O Scrappy Day". Choose a topic. (Weather, children, school, work, etc.) Write three sentences that begin with the words 'I'll never forget...' Then use one of your sentences in a paragraph, poem, or longer descriptive piece.

I'll never forget:
1. Finding out I was pregnant with my daughter.
2. Giving birth to my daughter.
3. Meeting my husband.
4. Moving from Virginia to Alaska.
5. Moving from Alaska to Florida.
6. Finding out I was going to be a step-grandmother!
7. Finding out I was going to have a layout published in a magazine in the same weekend that I found out I was going to be a grandmother for REAL!
8. How much the Internet has impacted my life!
I'm sure there's a lot more than this, but for now this is enough! I have a lot to be thankful for and consider myself VERY blessed by God!

Flowers!
It finally rained last night. We got quite a lot too. Boy did we ever need it! So this morning when I got up, all the flowers in the yard were very happy. I grabbed the camera and started snapping pictures.
First is a "Black Trumpet Vine". I don't know why they call it black because it's purple. And it's one of my favorite blooms! My bank manager saved me some seeds after I raved over pictures of her vines. These are about 3 years old.
Next is my beautiful Bougainveilla. They grow wild here and this one was HUGE before Hurricane Wilma nearly destroyed it. I was very happy to see it come back.
I absolutely LOVE orchids of all kinds. This is one of my smaller ones in a pot on my front porch.
Did you know that Hibiscus is the Chinese word for rose? And did you also know that the blooms only last one day? AND if you cut them off the branch they die very quickly! This one's in my back yard.
This is a bloom on a tree. It was here when we moved in and I've never figured out what it is. I know it's not a magnolia, but that's about all I know. The flowers sure are pretty though!
Plumeria is used a lot of places here as a hedge. This one's in our front yard around the Black Olive tree.
Another plant used here for landscaping. They grow tall and thin, but I love the purple flowers!
This is a Shamrock. A client gave Steve a cutting many years ago and I put it in a little pot and sat it on my kitchen windowsill. The lady told him that if you put it in a yard, it's like a weed and will take over. But it's done fine in my little pot all these years!
Another of my fav flowers in my yard. The Trumpet Vine. Supposedly people roll them up and smoke the flowers, but they can be quite posionous. I dunno. I just love their ethereal beauty!
This is one of my first Orchids. I bought a couple of plants for $10 at Home Depot about 10 years ago for our little apartment. When we moved here 8 years ago I put them in a big pot on the front porch and they've really grown a LOT! You can't see this one very well because it's growing around the new white posts, but it's still pretty!

My First Movie Theater Experience
My friend Suzanne has challenged us - "What's the first movie you remember seeing at a theater? Write about how you felt it... the movie, the big screen, the volume, the crowd, etc. Do you enjoy going to theaters now? What is the last movie you saw at a theater?"
The first movie I remember seeing at a theater was also the first time my parents let my brothers and I go by ourselves. Being the oldest (and the only girl) I was given enough money for my two brothers and I to get candy from the machine because it was cheaper. They dropped us off at the Jefferson Theater in Falls Church, Virginia and we were so very excited! We were going to see Mary Poppins! I decided we'd better find seats first since it was busy and then I'd take one of my brothers at a time to get the candy. So, first Bill and I went to the machine. We put our money in, made our selection and out came TWO candy bars!!! We were surprised and even more excited and said "Let's see what happens the next time." It happened AGAIN!!! Well, you can just imagine what we were thinking! This was in the day that you felt guilty if you DIDN'T tell someone! So we went back and got my youngest brother and told him he'd better be quiet or we might not get to keep the candy. Sure enough, it happened AGAIN! And no one came and got us, no lightning bolt fell out of the sky and we didn't get in trouble! WOW!
To this day I can remember only that part of the outing. I don't remember seeing the movie or going home or anything. But I must have enjoyed it because I got my mom to buy me the whole sheet music book for my piano recital and learned two songs from it - Feed the Birds and Let's Go Fly a Kite. (I remember the recital too and how nervous I was!) I still love the movie and the songs!
As for the last movie I saw in the theater, Steve and I treated ourselves recently and saw Ironman. For a comic book movie it was pretty good! And it was a great time of distraction and relaxation when we really needed it. Before that, the last movie we saw in the theater was the new James Bond, Casino Royale. Talk about eye candy!!! (And I'm really not into that kind of stuff.) But I enjoyed that movie so much that I bought it on DVD as soon as I could! Hehe! I also love Vin Diesel's Triple X which is an action adventure movie. And of course, Lady and the Tramp is my all time fav! Others are Monsters, Inc. and Cars. A good suspense/mystery movie is always a good candidate too! And the old time westerns are the best!

Zoe Brought Me A Flower!
My dog went into the front yard with my husband this morning. He came in saying "Call Zoe!" I figured she was being her stubborn, independent self and wasn't coming when he called her. Then he said "Got your camera?" I grabbed it and turned it on. Steve said, "Zoe brought you flowers!" Sure enough, she'd brushed by the plumeria bush and brought a flower in with her! :) She absolutely hates having her picture taken so it took three tries to get her face and the flower in focus, but I think it's pretty special that my dog brought me flowers. Now if only STEVE would do that more often..... :)

More Virginia Trip Layouts!
Okay, so it was 25 pages instead of 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOWSERS!!! I guess I really got the mojo on last Saturday huh? Anyway, enjoy this second set of layouts. I'll be adding to these another day as I finish the rest of the pictures. Thanks for looking and happy scrapping!!!
20 PAGES!!!
Yep. You read it right! I got 20 pages completed at my crop yesterday! WOW! I think that's a record even for me. I did relatively simple pages because I had so many pictures to do. Some I had to finish with titles and/or journaling today. But I was pretty proud of my accomplishments since I hardly scrapped at all the whole month of May! So sit back and enjoy the first slideshow. I'll post another one tomorrow when I get the rest of the pages scanned and uploaded to Photobucket. :) TFL and happy scrapping!!!
