Scrapdango October Spice Kit Reveal !

I should have posted these on Sunday but I've been sick with bronchitis and Steve had to go out of town for a few days so it's been a bit crazy around here with all that going on. Feeling much better now tho and realized I hadn't shared this AWESOME kit with my peeps! So here it is! If you want a kit you'll have to hurry... They sell out FAST!

First I created a layout about the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. This hurricane hit South Florida four years ago on October 24, 2005. It was NOT an experience I want to repeat!

Next I created a layout about Steve's boys on a fishing trip with their Grampa in Alaska. These are some of my favorite pictures of them!

For my two-pager I created a layout about the "fort" and car ramp my mother-in-law and grandson created just days before Michele and Noah moved to Virginia, and just about a week before my parents' 60th anniversary party. It was definitely a "don't get mad take pictures moment!"


And finally for my altered project I had GREAT fun creating a paper flowerpot! I used a plastic jar that had held the yummiest bruschetta from Costco. (Well cleaned out I might add...) I used my Cricut to create the flowers and the "stems" are lollipop sticks from the candy section at the craft store.

MSW Reveal Day!

Today is My Sketch World's mid-month reveal day! I had great fun working with Lucy's sketch this month! Here's my layout of Michele thanking my Dad for some Christmas gift he gave her years ago. I just LOVE these pics and these Creative Imaginations papers! And the new SEI Christmas Mint line of papers and embellies totally ROCKS too! Used some of their epoxy stickers here too. Enjoy!

WE HARVESTED BANANAS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I'm in the kitchen this morning and I see the banana tree is looking a bit funny. So Baxter (my dog) and I go out to investigate. The bananas got so heavy and big that they literally broke the branch!!!!! So when Steve came home this evening I told him about it and we decided that we needed to harvest our first crop of bananas! I ran and grabbed the camera quickly while he grabbed the machete. Steve says "Now THAT'S something I DIDN'T do in Alaska growing up!" hahahaha! It was a good thing we got them now because some critter(s) had gotten into a few of them. Grrrr!!! Of course Steve had to taste one and he says it tastes just like a green banana! I'll wait for them to ripen a bit more.... Meanwhile our black faced parrots had come to have their evening meal. They were quite loud and curious about why we were in THEIR back yard when they wanted to eat! So I grabbed a quick close up of a couple of them.
So the first thing we did was to weigh them. We have 15 POUNDS OF BANANAS!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I had Steve take them to the shower and wash the ants, etc. off of them and we let them dry a bit. Meanwhile I did some internet searching to find out about banana ripening...
It seems that banana trees are SUPPOSED to produce fruit in 20 months. It's been EIGHT YEARS since we moved in and they were here when we moved in! The previous owner told us it would take 7 years to bring fruit. So it's STILL been much longer than it should have been...
Then I read that you need to harvest them while they're green because it ruins the other fruit if you let it ripen on the tree. So we did good there. But once you cut them you have to hang them in a "cool dry place" to finish the ripening process. Now if you know my husband, you know he's a "come up with a plan" kind of guy. Sometimes his plans are brilliant, others they drive me crazy and others are just... Well, they're just STEVE! This was one of those "Just STEVE" cases! I have banana bunches hanging all over my living room and dining room and on the door to the guest suite off the kitchen!!!
From what I've read we should have ripe bananas in a few days... What am I gonna do with 15 pounds of bananas?!?! I guess that's for another post... World Card Making Day

Hello Scrapdango ladies! And everyone else out there in cyber world! Tomorrow is World Card Making Day. So in honor of that both of my fav places on the internet are having online crops.
