Turtle Soup Design Team Sketch Reveal

Hi there!  Today is the sketch reveal for the Turtle Soup Forum.  I loved this sketch by our Team Leader Bev Code because I knew it would let me use on of my favorite tools - the fabulous Kreaxions Circle Cutter!

The pictures are of the plane carrying our oldest Granddaughter Molly.  She started high school this year and decided she wanted to carry on the tradition of her father's family.  She will be the FOURTH generation on his Mom's side to go to the Ketchikan High School!  We've been praying for her to be able to move up there to be with her Dad because we thought it would be a better situation for her and so when the time came and we were the ones who were able to take her, we were super excited!  We met her in Seattle and then we all got on a plane to Ketchikan together.  What a wonderful honor and privilege it was!  So I love how the big circle gives the photos center "stage" and the banner below shows off the pictures even more!  I stamped the plane, cameras and people, and I stamped the title too.  I cut out the plane and people, mounted them on cardstock and then cut them out again...  I used my Kreaxions Circle Cutter and cut a 10" circle, then cut an 8 3/4" circle which gave me a 1 1/4" thick circle.

Polar Treats

Hello!  I'm sharing a simple page today...

These are pictures of my Granddaughter Molly and I in an ice cream and sandwich store called Polar Treats in Ketchikan, Alaska.  She saw this hat and wanted it so of course we bought it for her.  LOL! 

I used Kreaxions Punch #917 to create the border.  The papers were double-sided so it was easy to use the cut-away pieces for embellishments all over the page.

Using Your Kreaxions Scraps

Hello!  Ginni here and today I want to share a quick and easy project with you using some scraps I had left over from another project.
I don't know about you, but I just HATE throwing away my extra pieces and leftover punched borders!  I have to MAKE myself because I just keep thinking "I'll use them someday."  So this is a quick and easy way to use those scraps and create a unique gift or element for your pages!
My fellow Design Team Member Colleen and I are on a forum together and she challenged us to use those Formica samples to create a tag.  You can get the samples for free at your larger hardware stores.  I chose these three samples because my husband and I are going to be building a new house in the next year and I want Formica countertops.  When I realized I really didn't like the ones I picked with the decor we're going to have, I decided to use them for some tags to encourage my grandchildren to read books.  I need to make more which won't be a problem because these are ADDICTIVE!!!  :)  Oh and if you don't want to use Formica samples, you can use any other thing that you'd normally use to make tags with.  Just create your own background!

I had some leftover pieces of border using Kreaxions Punch #909.  So I pulled them out and added some brads and bling. I adhered everything with Ailene's 3-in-1 glue, outlined them with a Sharpie pen and added some twine and fibers at the top.  Quick, simple, easy and cheap!

The Guardian

Hi there!  Today starts the Turtle Soup Forum's September Mini Crop!  It's always so exciting to see what challenges the Design Team has come up with and even more fun to see what the members create!

This month's theme is "Anything Goes" so I decided to challenge the members to create any project using something from nature and to use at least one punch.  The nice thing about the Turtle Soup Forum is that you can create ANY kind of project for ANY challenge (unless it's posted otherwise)!  I usually do layouts but for my challenge you can do any type of project you'd like!  Here's the example for my challenge:

One day while trimming the tree in our front yard I suddenly realized that there was a face in the tree! We call him our Guardian because the face looks straight at the front door and the front of the house!

Drawing Rings with the Kreaxions Circle Cutter

Hello there!  Ginni here and today I'm going to show you how to use your Kreaxions Circle Cutter as a pencil tool rather than a cutting tool!  It's going to be a bit of a long post, but I hope you won't mind!
I wanted to draw circles on a card which is quite easy by switching out the blade with the pencil insert.  Did you know your Kreaxions Circle Cutter has a secret compartment?!  It DOES!  On the back side of your Kreaxions Circle Cutter is a little storage compartment where you'll find a couple of pencil inserts, a white plastic round circle and where you can store extra blades.

Open the little white compartment and pull out the pencil attachment.  Then lift #4 tab down and remove the blade.  Replace the blade with the pencil insert and put the tab back up.

Once you've inserted the pencil, you can use the circle cutter the exact same way as you normally would.  Following is a tutorial on how to make a card using the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to draw my circles.
Start by drawing a 4" circle somewhere in the center.

Next draw a 2 3/4 " circle on the top left and bottom right corners.  Make sure you intersect with the large circle.

Finally draw a 1 1/2" circle at top left and bottom right intersecting with the medium and large circles as well.

Now take a pen and go over the pencil lines.  I used 3 colors but you can make as few or as many circles as you want on your project.  Don't worry about being straight now because unless you have a complete steady hand (which I do not) it's not going to be a perfect circle.  On this project I used some Infinity felt tip pens.  But you could use any kind of pen, crayon, paint, whatever!  Use your imagination!

Next to give it some added dimension I dripped some Glimmer Mist by unscrewing top and tapping the sprayer with your finger.  This gives a lower level of spray.  Then I punched the crosses with Kreaxions Punch #612 and added them to the empty corners.  I outlined mine with a black Sharpie.  Then add your sentiment and you're done!

I used circles for a sympathy card because the person had died suddenly.  For the inside sentiment I used a poem that's quite religious so I won't share.  Basically it talks about how circles aren't broken and how life continues on through eternity.  So making good circles was important to me.  And having the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to guide my sometimes shaky hand was a great help.

Snow Fun - Turtle Soup Sketch Reveal

Hello!  I just LOVE the sketches Bev Code creates for our Turtle Soup Design Team!  I had great fun with this sketch...

And here is what I created using this sketch.  These are pictures of my Grandson Robert playing in the snow in December 2014.  I used the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to create my circles.

Kreaxions DT Reveal Day

Hello there!  Today is the Just Imagine/Kreaxions Design Team Reveal day.  The theme this month was "Summer Colors - Fun and Bright".  So I created this page about my daughter and her boyfriend.  Their smiles are bright and I used some summery papers from my stash.

 

I used Kreaxions Punch #909, the Kreaxions Circle Cutter and Kreaxions Positioning Parts 6.8 cm large on this page about my daughter and her boyfriend. All of my patterned papers are very old, I used Thickers for my title and I used some of the periods for embellies around the page, and I have a TON of flowers so I used some of my most unusual ones on this page.

This is my daughter Michele, her boyfriend Johnny and his daughter Alexis.  I just LOVE this picture!  I created the title by using a stencil as my negative then sprayed the paper.  Once it dried, I cut it into a square and then used a pen to outline the letters so you could read it easier. I added some Stickles to the flowers on the patterned paper and I also used it on the title. I used Kreaxions Punch #306 to create the borders and some CTMH stamps to create the large embellishments on the page.

Sue & Charlie - Kreaxions Punches Reveal

This is a page about my in-laws in June, 1983. I just LOVE the versatility of the Just Imagine/Kreaxions punches!!!  And by using the most awesome Circle Cutter EVER made along with the stencils and positioning parts, you can get so many different looks from each and every punch!  I like this page because it has a lot of different techniques with lots of scraps and only two punches!

Just Imagine/Kreaxions Design Team Reveal Day - Summer Fun!

Today the Just Imagine Crafts/Kreaxions Punches Design Team is revealing their Summer Fun projects!  You can find the other team members' projects at Just Imagine Crafts. 

So here's my project.  The picture is of my husband and his mother in the 1960s at a hotel in Myrtle Beach where they were visiting my husband's grandparents.

 I used Kreaxions Punch #310 and the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to create the embellishments on this page.  There's lots of little pieces all over the page because I just love how they look and it's hard for me to throw them all away!  :)

Flower Doily Card

Hello again!  Today I'm sharing a card using scraps from a 6x6 pad of paper.

I used the Kreaxions Star Template and Kreaxions Punch #913 Lily to create the "flower".  I outlined everything with a gold pen, then folded it up a bit to give it the dimension.  I added a cloth brad for my center.  For my background I used 3x3 pieces of paper laid on the card base and drew my stitching with a pen.  The "brackets" are leftover from punching the star stencil.  I just cut them to fit and outlined them with a gold pen as well.

Doilies Are Easy with Just Imagine/Kreaxions Products!

Hello!  Today I'm sharing a heritage page.  The picture is of my husband's Great-Great Grandfather...  I needed a nice mat for the small picture so I created a doily with my Kreaxions products!  Doilies are SUPER easy to make with the Kreaxions products and they work with EVERY Kreaxions 4-in-1 punch!

To create a doily using your Kreaxions products, first cut a circle with your Kreaxions Circle Cutter just a little bigger than the size you want to end up with.  Second, flip your paper over and use either Kreaxions Stencil A (for larger circles) or Kreaxions Stencil B (for medium and smaller circles) and draw lines so you'll know where to punch.  Next, choose your punch.  I chose Kreaxions Punch #920. Each punch has a little mark in the front showing the center of the punch to line up with the lines from the stencil.  Then I chose Kreaxions Positioning Parts 6.8 cm and used that insert to cut on the lines I'd created with Kreaxions Stencil B.  It gave me a great mat that focuses on the tiny original heritage picture!

It's Turtle Soup's Birthday Bash Time!!!

It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone already and it's time to celebrate the Turtle Soup Forum's 2nd Birthday!  I've been out of town so this is my first post, but the celebration runs all month long!  So be sure and check out ALL of the different challenges! 

So today my challenge for you is to do a page either about a birthday cake, with a birthday cake in the patterned paper and/or using a birthday cake as an embellishment.  Here's my example:

I did a two-page layout about my now 11 year old Grandson's 4th birthday party.  There's cake in the pictures and cake in a couple of the stickers too.

This is the house that my parents, brothers, daughter, grandsons and I called home for nearly 50 years. The picture on the left is the last time I saw the house. The one on the right was taken in September 2014 just before we sold it. We will all miss this house terribly! The Silhouette cut file had “stitches” on the clouds so I used my pen to enhance it. I stamped the flowers on the borders...

Just Imagine/Kreaxions DT Reveal Day!

I chose to do a page about my Super Cool 4 year old Grandson Garrett showing off his shades. 

I used Kreaxions Punch #909 Polar Sun with Template A to create all my borders.  Then I used some of the cut-away pieces to enhance the rest of the page here and there.  All of the papers and stickers are from Fancy Pants Designs.  I also used some of the new Ranger Distress Mini Inks (LOVE THEM!) and a Sharpie pen.

Just Imagine/Kreaxions Reveal - Flowers

Hello!  Today I'm sharing a page about flowers.  My Aunt Jean used to send my parents flowers at the nursing home every once in awhile.  It cheered them up so much!  This was just one of the bouquets she sent...


I used double-sided paper and cut a 10” circle with my Kreaxions Circle Cutter.  Then I used Stencil A to draw my punch lines and used Kreaxions Punch #309 with Positioning Parts 8 cm and punched on my marks.  Then I cut an 8” circle from the punched piece and flipped the paper over for my center.  To cover my pencil marks I used brads and bling then added some bling to some of the points.  I also used some cut-away pieces on the corners of the photo and outer page corners.

Kreaxions Design Team Reveal - Happy Day

Hello!  I'm sharing a Just Imagine/Kreaxions project today.  I hope you're having a great beginning to your summer!  This picture was actually taken in the fall, but it reminds me of the springtime when the sun comes out and it's just barely warm enough to go out and enjoy the weather.  This was one of those days for my Mom, my Dad and my brother Bill.  Dad had been in isolation for a month before having gall bladder surgery and was finally able to get out and about.  Mom had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and was finally doing well enough to go see Dad.  Bill had had neck surgery a few weeks before and was happy to be out and about himself.  Seeing the 3 of them happy and enjoying the sunshine made me grab my camera and take this picture.  It's one of my all time fav pictures!  I used a sketch by Lucy Chesna for this page...

I used the Kreaxions Circle Cutter to make all the circles on this page.  I cut two 10” circles (one from blue patterned paper and one from yellow cardstock) then tore the top and bottom off the yellow cardstock.  I cut 3 blue circles for the scallop on the left of the pictureas a big scallop, and two more circles to hold my stickers on the bottom right of the page.   I also used Kreaxions Punch #602 for the leaves, Kreaxions Punch #603 (currently out of stock in the Just Imagine Crafts Store) for the flowers and Kreaxions Punch #612 for the Crosses.  I used heart brads for the flower centers…  I added a few stickers and the punched crosses to finish embellishing the page.  I outlined everything with inks and pens.

I had great fun with this sketch.  I used my new Silhouette Cameo to create the film strip and the title letters.  The photos are of my wonderful husband Steve when he was 1 to 2 years old...  Fun sketch, fun way to play with my new machine and a great layout using lots of old pictures!

Here's a layout I created for a challenge to use NO cardstock!  It's a single piece of paper with one strip of paper for journaling, and a few embellishments.  The picture is of my mother-in-law in the early 1930s.

Finally here's a page I created for a challenge to use washi tape.  All of the strips on this page are washi tapes!  It's about my husband and I last Christmas on our way out the door to go to a Christmas party.  It also covers a challenge for the Memorable Seasons Forum to use a Selfie picture...

It's the Kreaxions Design Team Spring Themed Reveal Day!!!

These are pictures of my Mom’s last garden. I used Kreaxions Punch #915 with no template for the top and bottom borders, as well as the border at the top and bottom of the mushroom picture. I also used Kreaxions Punch #604 Butterfly Punch for the little butterflies around the page. The large butterfly at the top is my journaling block. It and the lacy butterfly die are from the Just Imagine/Kreaxions store.

Kreaxions Design Team Reveal - Layered Flower Card

Hello there! I'm here today with a card that celebrates the beginning of Spring!
I used Kreaxions Punch #917 for the borders and used all the cut-aways all over the page. The hearts on the flowers are from the punched borders and the bottom border is the cut-away from the top border. I used my brand new Silhouette Cameo to cut the layered flowers and added hearts to them as well, attaching them all together with a brad. Then I outlined everything with a pen. Other Materials – All papers My Mind’s Eye except flowers (Bazzill); Pen – Sharpie

And speaking of the Silhouette Cameo  if you're looking for an electronic cutter, THIS is the one to purchase!!!  I've had a Cricut for YEARS.  I was at the Craft and Hobby Association when they introduced what's now called the "Baby Cricut" and ordered one almost immediately.  Then a few years ago I upgraded and got a Cricut Expression.  I enjoyed it and used it occasionally.  But recently I heard a LOT about the Silhouette Cameo.  I got some birthday money and had a little extra and started researching to see if I should keep my Expression and buy a program or whatever to upgrade it or if I should order the Cameo.  I asked around on the forums I belong to and the resounding answer everywhere I turned was "Get the Cameo!!!"  So that's what I did...  OMG I LOVE IT!!!!  The learning curve was almost instantaneous, it's SO much easier to download any kind of file and use it to cut, and then send it from the computer to the machine and it's DONE!  :)  Anyway, between my Kreaxions punches and my Silhouette Cameo I'm in heaven!!!

Mother's Day and Birthday Cards

Hello! There's still time to make Mother's Day Cards!  And today just happens to be my only Granddaughter's 14th birthday too!  So I'm sharing two cards today!
The first is a Mother's Day card. I used Kreaxions Punch #307 to create the borders on this card.  Before I adhered the punched piece to the front of the card, I colored the punched out parts and the edges with a gold pen.  Then I added a flower that I just ran a pen over and added a big rhinestone to, wrote my sentiment and outlined it with 2 different pens and added the pearls.  Sounds hard but it was SUPER easy!

My other card today is the birthday card I made for my Granddaughter. I used Kreaxions Punch #307, the Kreaxions Circle Cutter and Stencil B to create the doily to which I added a flower and a big rhinestone for the center.  Before I adhered the doily to the front of the card, I colored the punched out parts and the edges with a gold pen.  Once I adhered the card I went around the outer edges of the whole edge with a regular tip gold pen.  I wrote the sentiment (which could easily be Happy Mother's Day, Thank You, Get Well, etc).  The top and bottom banners are cut-away pieces from the Mother’s Day card.

I hope you've enjoyed these cards today!  Please be sure to hug your Moms a little harder if they're still with you.  Two and one half years ago the night before Mother's Day my Mom got very, very ill and was rushed to the hospital.  That's when we found out she had the cancer and 4 months later she was gone...  I miss her SOOOOOOOO MUCH!  Especially on days like Mother's Day.  I hope you have a Happy Mother's Day and Happy Punching!

This is my Mother-In-Law with her family.  She’s the one in the middle in the front row.  I loosely interpreted a sketch by Jennifer Hagerty at My Scraps & More.  My punches are Kreaxions #604 (Butterflies), Kreaxions #901 for the Butterfly Border and Kreaxions #921 for the Flower Border and with Template C on the corners of the photo mat.  All of these punches can be purchased at the Just Imagine Crafts Store...

Just Imagine/Kreaxions Design Team Reveal!!!

Today I'm sharing a card that I made using Kreaxions Punch #921 with Template C for the corners and Template A around the rest of the card, then I colored in the cutaway spots with a gold pen. I added gold elements and outlined everything with a gold pen. Simple and easy yet BEAUTIFUL!!!

Turtle Soup April Mini Crop Starts Today!

Hello there!  I have a challenge starting today on the Turtle Soup Forum for the April Mini Crop that I wanted to share here.  My challenge to you is to create a page using patterned paper ONLY.  You can use cardstock as your background, but all other papers need to be patterned.  

Here's my example  I did a 2 pager about my Grandsons Noah and Garrett playing in a play place a couple of years ago.  The only cardstock on these two pages is the background.

It's time for another Turtle Soup Design Team Sketch Reveal!!! I just LOVED this sketch by Bev Code...



This is a picture of my Dad on February 17, 2003 shoveling snow in front of their house. That’s a LOT of snow for that area! I punched borders and put the main pieces together in the middle then used the cutaway pieces on the outer edges. Then I added cutaway snowflakes on the wrong side of the paper to cover the “seam”. There’s small fibers threaded through both of the borders.

And how about some eye candy today... I have a 4 year old grandson named Garrett who is quite the character as you'll see in the following 3 layouts. When he was born he immediately had a temper tantrum because he LIKED it in there! :) And from the time he was able to roll over they've called him "Danger Baby"! He has never had much fear and he's always into something... He's also almost as tall as his 11 year old brother! So here's a few layouts that show his individual personality...


One of my daughter's friends “tattoo’d” Garrett and he loved it! This was for a scraplift challenge at the Turtle Soup Forum. I used Dria’s LO as my inspiration and October Afternoon and Echo Park papers to create this LO. I added fun bling and elements to draw the eye to the picture.

Today I have a card to share for the Just Imagine/Kreaxions Blog.  I've seen so many cards where  someone has layered punched borders and I just LOVE the look but for some reason I was never successful in making it look right - until I made this card!!!  Putting the little bit of space in between was just what I needed to do!I have a friend who’s going through some serious health issues that’s been ongoing for over a year and I wanted to cheer her up a bit. So I found some scraps and a couple of fun punches and had some fun.

Then I used some of the cut-away pieces on the inside...
