In Honor of 9/11

Few of us alive that day will ever forget it. It's one of those moments in life when you know exactly where you were and what you were doing when it happened. Steve was watching the news when the first plane hit. I came into the room just in time to see the second one hit. This day especially hits me since I grew up in the DC area and the plane that hit the Pentagon was way too close to home. It went over my parents house. They weren't home. It went over my mom's office. She was there. It went over my dad's store which is only a mile away. He was there. They felt the impact. My ex-husband (and father of my DD) works across the river from the Pentagon and is often at the Pentagon. Thankfully not that day. Steve has two cousins who work at the Pentagon. One worked in the section that was hit. Both happened to be out of town that day. Just way too close to home!

Then the Anthrax thing hit. Boca Raton is the next city north of us. We had just moved into our home a month before. Because of all the messed up mail our first three mortgage payments didn't arrive on time. We had to put a stop payment on all three!!! The second one never showed up anywhere. So I KNOW mail was destroyed!

And then we started putting pieces together around our area. A couple of days before the news came out about the Anthrax we saw a very strange thing at a hotel at the beach in our town. Men in white suits that looked like astronauts were searching a room. It was just one of those things that as you're slowly driving by you see and it catches your attention. Turns out that Attah and two of his companions had stayed there!!! This is just a couple of miles from our home! Then there's the story of the Delray Beach pharmacist who had Attah and another man come into his pharmacy looking for something to clear up a nasty rash... They came in twice - second time rash was worse. Pharmacist said it looked just like the rash Anthrax gives you..... News hushed that story up fast... Just makes you wonder... We could have been shopping at the same grocery store or on the beach or sitting next to them at the traffic light and would have had no idea. Scary stuff!

A month later my Dad took some pictures of the Pentagon. Then in December my DH and I were in town and went to see it. I'll never forget that day either. It was bitterly cold. The wind was blowing so hard the flags were stiff. But still there were quite a few people who were there. I remember thinking that life really never would be the same anymore after this. It really had hit home that day. Then we turned from the building and saw a little area where a small memorial had been set up. It was on the side of a small hill. In the middle of this area stood a man holding a flag wearing a camouflage uniform. He was like a statue. The wind was horrendously cold - my tears were actually freezing on my face!!! But this man just stood there looking at the Pentagon. It was one of the most moving sights I've ever seen. It is so cold that the camera colors are blue and green. Except the flags!

I actually made an album about 9/11. It started as a 2-pager and ended up being 20. I was going to post a slideshow here of the pages, but when I originally scanned them in I made them too small. There's a slideshow of the pictures I took that very, very cold day in December after this post...

For those of you who lost someone you knew or loved, I'm praying for you! For the rest of us whose lives will never be the same, I'm praying for you. I am praying for our soldiers and their families. I am praying for our leaders. I am praying for our country. God has richly blessed America. I just pray that He will continue to keep us blessed and safe. May God bless each and every one of you!

Beautiful and moving. Yes, I remember the exact moment. MaybeI should write it on my blog. I still cry over it. We met less than a year later, as we were at a crop together and the contest was a layout of 911.

That's awesome that you have an entire album about 9/11 Ginni.
